[It should be useful, it's the one perk of his crippling anxietyparanoid preparedness hypervigilance in general.]
let me know what you find if comms go down i might be able to carry a couple urgent messages if things get real dire
[By. Turning into a bird. But he's keeping that up his sleeve for the moment.]
tell me about it if i had a dollar for each time i had to tell someone auras aren't magic well, it wouldn't really matter, because most things here are paid for anyway but i'd have a lot of dollars
[How much, relatively, is unclear, because SOME eldritch dream gods didn't exactly set up an exchange rate for Lien, but. He'd have it. This is the important point.]
[ He notes the difference, and it is... a relief. It is one less thing to manage. Ozpin is very tired, and to speak frankly with Qrow, rather than feeling he must keep two volatile personalities each on their own leash, is something of a weight lifted.
If even Qrow can tolerate sharing space with the man, perhaps there is hope for all of them yet. ]
I would rather have him as an ally than an enemy.
Salem has died a second death, now. He dealt the blow.
[Huh. That... sounds like the making of an interesting story. She doesn't press for more details, though. Instead, she remembers how she had wished her own magic could be removed, until being reminded that it isn't possible without potentially killing her, and is grateful that's not a risk from the gods of her own world.]
That sounds, uh, pretty wild. Even for my world. There's gods and stuff I can call on at home for spells, but for the most part, most of them won't interfere otherwise. We did have a hell god once, though, who was trapped in our dimension and tried to break down the barriers between worlds to get home. That was, um. Well, it was pretty bad. But we stopped her.
[Stopping the gods. That sounds nice, Qrow thinks, in that way people think "winning the lottery would be nice". Knowing the truth about what will happen when the Relics are brought together terrifies him down to his bones. Qrow doubts there will even be a planet left to save if Salem manages to summon the gods back to it for her revenge or whatever the hell it is she wants with them.]
Ours destroyed our moon and abandoned the planet. Supposedly, if they ever come back? They'll judge whether humanity's worthy of continuing to exist and if they don't think we are, they'll destroy the rest of the planet once and for all.
[Willow's eyes widen and she's silent for a long moment as she takes in Qrow's words about the Sword of Damocles hanging over the head of all those back in Remnant.]
They destroyed the moon? That sounds honestly pretty frightening. I'm sorry to hear it.
[She smiles a little.]
The people from your world, though, from what I've seen? They're pretty brave. And stubborn. I bet if it comes down to it, you'll figure out a way to stop the world from being destroyed.
thing is being an ally and staying one are different things nobody is an ally he wouldn't betray if he thought it made sense what happens when the next thing freaks him out? salem's always been his enemy but we weren't until suddenly we were too inconvenient
[His main issue with Oz had been that he was a liar, but he's working on that here. He's given Qrow plenty of reason by now to believe in his sincerity.
James, on the other hand, began to justify his actions before he even knew there were actions to justify. I would if they did something to deserve it. It still stings, because he knows--he knows that in James' world there are allies and there are enemies, but there aren't really friends. Loyalty is only a one-way street.]
[Qrow's still terrible at taking compliments, even generic ones directed at his whole planet, so he mostly just grunts vaguely at it, the verbal equivalent of a shrug.]
Mm, well. Here's hoping we never find out if we can or not.
I hope not too. If it's any consolation, they kind of get easier to stop after the first one?
[Or at least after the first one, you're not shocked by the concept and the weight of the world trying to end and it gets easier to focus on finding the solution.]
[ Ah, a buddy in paranoid preparedness and general worry-based overthinking. Mako's in good company. ]
Will do, thank you.
[ Qrow wouldn't be the first person Mako's met who can do that, at least. ]
I'm not sure how valuable a single dollar is, we have different currency at home, but probably I'd have a lot too. It's a blanket term and it doesn't even make sense for bending.
Auras are what let Ruby do that flower thing, right?
Then it is my job to convince him it does not make sense to turn.
James's loyalty is conditional, but in a way that readily aligns with our own purposes. He will always act as he believes as right. The tension arises when he values ideals over human lives.
It is nothing like Leonardo, who valued his own safety above all else.
In any case, I am attempting to establish safeguards. I am closely involved with the structure of TRUST, and I am working with Winter to keep an eye on the situation.
are we even sure we can trust winter? her only tie to us over atlas is her sister, and weiss isn't even here anymore
he might align with our purposes now but he's going to disagree with you eventually, he always does it's just a matter of how explosively he does if i have to work with him, i need to know the backup plan because i'm not letting him turn his gun on the girls again i'll fucking kill him first
I guess technically there might be a spell that would let us do that. It would probably be hard to pull off, though. Besides if we left, who's gonna save the world?
I guess it's possible. That would be a pretty complicated and intense spell, though. I don't think I'd be able to do it by myself even if I wanted to. Even just teleporting one person a little ways is really draining.
[She shrugs.]
It might just be easier to keep stopping apocalypses. Besides, like I said - after the first couple, you kinda get the hang of it.
[ Ozpin has spent two full months politely ignoring the blue morning glories in his study. Certain birds have made that difficult, but he tries to simply keep the plants alive and not dwell overmuch on their color or origin. Not dwelling does not really rank among Ozpin's more prominent skills, but an effort is made.
It's considerably more difficult when he comes home to find his study utterly blanketed in red flowers. There is only one person in his life who has made a fuss about morning glories, and who would take amusement from inviting himself into Ozpin's space to rearrange things as he finds more suitable. The message is received loud and clear, but he's not going to permit it that easily.
Red is not only Stanford's color, and this avenue of cruelty is simply too easy. ]
Really, Qrow. I have greatly enjoyed the pleasure of your company these past weeks, but as we have discussed at length, I am already involved in a relationship.
I mean, at home all the food would cost money. I figure it can't be a normal earth thing to just give vegetables away but what do I know? I'm not from earth.
Benders can control the elements. Only one, though. Like, I'm a firebender, so I can create and control fire. My brother's an earthbender, so he can control earth. Dirt, rocks. In his case, lava, but that's really rare.
[....hUH. that actually does. sound like magic. from his world. or Dust usage, at least. But he supposes there are some semblances that are elemental in nature, like that kid Nora's ability to absorb lightning.]
people have only one ability each too, mostly but controlling elements can also be real magic where we're from, so it's extra weird how that's different between our worlds
anyway like i said when your aura breaks you can't keep up your semblance, but it also means we can't use it to protect our bodies anymore, either so we can be actually injured after that
I trust Winter. She has faced overwhelming odds in my defense, and she knows enough to worry for James's stability. She does not want to see him cross the line any more than we do.
I do not ask that you enjoy the man's company, only that you humor my efforts. Should he squander the chance, understand that I can and will personally intervene.
[ This is a very polite way of saying Not if I do first. ]
It's not so much that he forgot his own color, but he hadn't considered specifying a shade when he asked Vyng for the flowers. So the morning glories that blanket Ozpin's study are a deep, brilliant scarlet which certainly match Ford's wardrobe, but are ... much closer to his own Aura's color than initially intended.
Ah, the best laid plans. They made sense in his head, rip.
But just like Oz, he is certainly not going to admit to this right off the bat.]
