No, that's a good thing to think about. It's hard to imagine we aren't going to get the worst parts of every month, you know? No supplies, spotty communication. I'll check on the radio thing. It might be useful.
Magic is pretty weird. We don't have anything like it at home. Or, everyone calls what I can do magic but it's definitely not.
[ Says the man who can make fire with his body. Same hat! ]
[It should be useful, it's the one perk of his crippling anxietyparanoid preparedness hypervigilance in general.]
let me know what you find if comms go down i might be able to carry a couple urgent messages if things get real dire
[By. Turning into a bird. But he's keeping that up his sleeve for the moment.]
tell me about it if i had a dollar for each time i had to tell someone auras aren't magic well, it wouldn't really matter, because most things here are paid for anyway but i'd have a lot of dollars
[How much, relatively, is unclear, because SOME eldritch dream gods didn't exactly set up an exchange rate for Lien, but. He'd have it. This is the important point.]
[ Ah, a buddy in paranoid preparedness and general worry-based overthinking. Mako's in good company. ]
Will do, thank you.
[ Qrow wouldn't be the first person Mako's met who can do that, at least. ]
I'm not sure how valuable a single dollar is, we have different currency at home, but probably I'd have a lot too. It's a blanket term and it doesn't even make sense for bending.
Auras are what let Ruby do that flower thing, right?
I mean, at home all the food would cost money. I figure it can't be a normal earth thing to just give vegetables away but what do I know? I'm not from earth.
Benders can control the elements. Only one, though. Like, I'm a firebender, so I can create and control fire. My brother's an earthbender, so he can control earth. Dirt, rocks. In his case, lava, but that's really rare.
[....hUH. that actually does. sound like magic. from his world. or Dust usage, at least. But he supposes there are some semblances that are elemental in nature, like that kid Nora's ability to absorb lightning.]
people have only one ability each too, mostly but controlling elements can also be real magic where we're from, so it's extra weird how that's different between our worlds
anyway like i said when your aura breaks you can't keep up your semblance, but it also means we can't use it to protect our bodies anymore, either so we can be actually injured after that
It's really inconsistent between the worlds, which has made trying to find any kind of pattern almost impossible. Someone I met here uses something she called magic and she can create water from nothing. That would never happen at home.
You can't be injured before that?
[ Can this be taught, is the real question he has, because it sounds very useful. ]
yeah, that'd be magic for us too generally, anyway i guess someone could have a semblance like that so water...benders can only work with water that already exists?
not if we've actively got our aura in place, no it does take a mental effort to do that, though so if you're inexperienced or have it down because you're conserving aura it could happen or if the damage would've just been too much for your aura to take in the first place
as far as i know, it's just us not sure that's the kind of thing i'd be willing to test with an outsider though without an aura you will definitely bleed if you're cut
It's awful. It only happened to me once, but. Hard to forget.
[ Yikes!!! And that's the last Mako's going to say about it, thank you; he tries his best not to think about that particular incident anymore than he has to. ]
I mean, I bleed when I'm cut anyway, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a your-world thing. There are some very weirdly specific things to the places people come from.

but i figure it's probably cheap-ish considering how little you can buy with one
[Good thing most stuff in Deerington is free.......]
technically that's her semblance, but you can't keep using your semblance after an aura break so you're right in a way
what's bending?

Does everyone have an aura, or is it just people from your world? Being able to not take hits sounds pretty convenient.

even magic can't do that, i'm pretty sure
[....he's pretty sure. He does not think he wants to ask Oz about that, okay. He will live in this ignorance and fucking appreciate it.]
yeah i know
my point is if i could be sure you could activate an aura i could train you in that but otherwise you'll just get hurt
