[Qrow would really like Deerington to let up for a month so he can catch his breath, honestly, but this message just draws a sigh. He can recognize, here, where the kid needs a gentle answer, that warm honey kindness that Ozpin has mastered over lifetimes. But Qrow's kindness is a rough and jagged thing, one that has only ever known how to express itself through action rather than words. He is not sure how to say what he wants in a gentle way. It takes him a little while to respond, uncertainty pushing him into the patterns he's most comfortable with -- putting the phone away and patrolling a couple miles around the house to be sure there are no oncoming threats to avoid the issue.
It's freeing in a way, to let the complications fade from his mind and lean into the bird's instincts for a few minutes. Then he takes a deep breath, turns on the video, and does what he does best--he tries.]
...Look, it's not like it's a choice between you and them.
[If there ever were, he would choose his nieces and leave Glitch to his fate without hesitation or guilt, and he thinks they both know that. He doesn't put voice to it.]
I can do both. This is what it means to be a Huntsman, kid. Someday you'll be doing the same thing for someone else who'll think you're wasting your time.
...And besides. The girls think of you as family, and you're Clover's kid, so. That's good enough for me, too.
[ If Qrow wouldn't put voice to it, Glitch was very close to voicing it himself. A very dry 'we both know that's not true.' But, someone has to voice that. ]
I get that but if it means me or Ruby in Maul's path-
You know what you have to do.
[ Because he's made his bed with Maul for the sheer fact of existing adjacent to him. Ruby could escape that.
Still, he does go quiet when Qrow says that. He decides to move away from the depressing thing; ]
So should I start calling you Uncle Qrow than? Since well. We're basically family adjacent?
[Qrow lets out a mildly annoyed grunt as Glitch spells out the obvious.]
I know I'm cursed, but the odds of being in a position where I can only protect either you or Ruby aren't exactly particularly high. So you can drop the whole "I'll be fine" crap anytime. I'm still going to watch your back, and if I didn't want to, I wouldn't. How much you need it or whatever doesn't even factor in.
[He's kind of ticked that Glitch is even making him say it!!!]
...But sure, you can call me that if you want. Oscar and Emerald have already been doing it.
Glitch pauses rubbing at his left shoulder, another nervous tick he's just picked up from losing his arm. But he decides to not argue further on it and just focus on the next thing; ]

I'll have to give it time.
Uncle Qrow...
Uuuuuncle Qrow...
no it still sounds weird to me...

[Honestly, it's a bit less awkward for him that way.]
Like I said before, we don't need to label it.

[ Because Uncle Qrow is still such a weird thing to say. ]
